Clubs at Providence

"But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." ~ Acts 6:4

David E. Over Service Club

The goal of the David E. Over Service Club, which is named after Providence's first pastor, is to provide constant service in the church and community with special emphasis on the youth and the elderly, along with participation in on-going church projects. Activities include the annual Seniors' Day (typically hosted in October), a fall day trip to Sight and Sound Theater, the Mother Daughter Brunch (typically held in April), dinner service at Christopher's Place, and the Providence Memorial Booklet for Memorial Sunday.

Dorcas Auxiliary

Providing outreach services and fellowship experiences that develop good relationships within our church as well as the extended community is the mission of the Dorcas Auxiliary. These service and fellowship experiences include visiting nursing homes and other care facilities and offering assistance to the aged and shut-in members. Annual activities include hosting dinner for Golden Gleamers (older members of our church), providing dinner at Christopher's Place, distributing Christmas gifts for patients in nursing homes, sponsoring shopping trips and dinner plays, and planning Everybody's Birthday, a birthday celebration for everyone who attends.

Douglas E. Summers Progressive Workers' Club

Named after our current pastor, the Douglas E. Summers Progressive Workers' Club seeks to promote spiritual growth in the church and the community by imparting deeds of good will and outreach. Some of their outreach initiatives include serving dinner at Christopher's Place, making Christmas fruit baskets and gifts for shut-in club and community members, and planning an annual brunch cruise (typically in June).

Joint Usher Board & Nurses' Unit

The Joint Usher Board and Nurses' Unit is one of the largest organizations of Providence. The Combined Usher Board and Nurses' Unit is comprised of the senior ushers, youth ushers, and nurses' unit. We assist the co-pastors and members by being of service before, during, and after church services (including funerals). The ushers assist with seating before and during services, collect tithes and offerings, stand on the doors of the church, and attend to the needs of church members during services.

Marcus G. Wood Fellowship Club

The theme of this club, which was named after Providence's third pastor, is "Carry Your Corner," which means to do your part in keeping the club active and doing God's Will at all times. The club supports Unity Day and the White Gift Project. The club works to maintain the upkeep of the church and supports church members in their time of need, especially during bereavement.

Men's Fellowship

The Men's Fellowship includes all of the men of Providence Baptist Church with a purpose of providing opportunities for men in the church to use their special gifts in harmony with those of our pastoral leaders to give visible witness to our oneness in Christ.

V. A. R. Club

The mission of the V.A.R. (Vision, Action, and Recreation) is to be forward thinking, motivated to action and to incorporate enjoyment in all that we do. It was founded in 1972 from the interests of several individuals who wanted to bring middle-aged adults together for Christian fellowship, social outlet, and service activities consistent with the spiritual objectives of Providence.
