The Providence Adult Day Care Center, Inc., established in 1993, is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit corporation. The purpose for which the corporation was formed is to make available in a structured environment, health care services, and educational and recreational activities for low and moderate income, medically vulnerable adults and seniors in Baltimore City and the surrounding areas.

What is the structure of the Providence Adult Day Care Center, Inc.?

The Providence Adult Day Care Center, Inc., which is an outgrowth of the church's community outreach initiatives, has its own separate Board of Directors, Articles of Incorporaion, By-Laws, and 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status. This structure allows the Providence Adult Day Care Center, Inc. to raise funds from various sources, to include individuals, corporations, foundations, local, state, and federal governments. These funds are used to support the many programs and services of the Providence Adult Day Care Center. The composition of the thirteen-member Board of Directors consists of members from Providence Baptist Church and the Baltimore community.

What are the Center's sources of revenue?

Participants who are enrolled in the adult day care program have their fees paid for by Medicaid through the State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene(DHMH), Veterans Administration (VA), City of Baltimore's Commission on Aging, or individual family members (private pay). These revenues are contingent upon particpants' daily attendance. (If participants are absent the Center does not receive payment for those days).

Funds are also received from individuals who contribute to the Providence Adult Center, Inc. through payroll deduction by designating the Providence Adult Day Care Center, Inc. on their Maryland Charity or Combined Charity Campaign pledge cards or through the United Way Campaign. In addition to individual support, grants have also been received from several foundations and corporations. The Board will continue to solicit outside grant support as well as annual year-end appeal.

Who owns and operates the Providence Adult Day Care Center?

The Providence Adult Day Care Center, Inc. owns the Center building. Numerous volunteers - many of who are Providence Church members, delivering services and programs for our participants, assist the professional staff of ten paid employees. The Center's director and staff report to the Providence Adult Day Care Center Board of Directors.

What are the services provided in the Center?

As stated in the Articles of Incorporation, the services that are provided consist of health care services, educational and recreational activities, for low and moderate-income senior members in the City of Baltimore and the surrounding areas. These services and many more are provided during the Center's operational hours of 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

What impact has the Providence Adult Day Care Center had on the community?

Currently there are 71 participants enrolled in this program. Many of these medically vulnerable seniors have lost family members and friends over the years and have very few support persons to assist them during the day. The Center provides participants with a warm, nurturing environment where their medical and nutritional needs can be monitored; the opportunity to socialize and establish new relationships with their peers and to participate in a variety of planned activities.
Without these services, many of the seniors would spend the remainder of their years in closed, isolated environments. The services provided by the Providence Adult Day Care Center have added to our participant's quality of life physically, mentally, and spiritually. A participant recently articulated the Center's impact:
"This Center and the programs offered have given me a new lease on life. I look forward to getting up in the morning and coming." The Center is definitely having a positive impact on our senior population by providing a "community of caring."
